How does an air suspension shock work? The air suspension system has several key parts:
1. Air Springs (Air Bags): These are reinforced rubber bellows filled with compressed air. The air pressure inside the bag supports the weight of the vehicle.
2. Air Compressor: This pump generates the compressed air needed to inflate the air springs.
3. Air Lines: These are tough hoses that carry the compressed air from the compressor to the air springs.
4. Valve Block & Solenoids: This unit precisely controls the flow of air into and out of each individual air spring.
5. Electronic Control Unit (ECU): The brain of the system. It receives information from sensors and/or driver inputs to control the compressor and valves.
6. Height Sensors: These sensors monitor the vehicle's ride height and report back to the ECU.
The Process: When you want to raise the vehicle, the ECU activates the compressor and opens the valves to send air into the air springs, inflating them. To lower the vehicle, the ECU opens the valves to release air from the springs back into the atmosphere.
